Services

Youth Peer Advocacy

Youth Peer Advocacy are often offered through community-based organizations, mental health clinics, or schools. This program is designed to provide support, education, and advocacy for young people by trained peers who have also experienced similar challenges.

How This Helps

Services will be delivered in either a 1-1 session or a group setting. Activities will be intended to develop & achieve the identified goals and/or objectives as set forth in the youth’s individualized care plan. Activities provided can include problem solving, mentoring, community resources exploration, and life skills support. This will help by:

  • Providing support to young people who are facing mental health or behavioral health challenges by connecting them with trained peers who have similar experiences.
  • Offering mentorship to their peers, providing guidance and support as they navigate their challenges.
  • Encouraging self-advocacy for themselves and access the resources they need to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Reducing stigma surrounding mental health challenges by creating a safe and supportive environment for young people to share their experiences.
  • Promoting positive coping skills and strategies to manage their mental health challenges.
  • Improving access to resources and services that can improve their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Building a sense of community to help young people feel less isolated and build connections with others who have similar experiences.
  • Increasing awareness about mental health and behavioral health challenges
